Welcome to the Churchill Theatre!
It is an absolute privilege to have you here with us for this momentous occasion.
Tonight’s production, ‘Skylarks in Space’ is far more than a showcase of our dancers’ incredible dedication, technique and artistry. It marks a historic milestone for our family: the 10-year anniversary of the Skylark School of Dance.
A decade ago, we opened our studio doors in the heart of Bromley with a simple vision to provide world class dance training rooted in classical ballet, wrapped in a nurturing environment where creativity, confidence and connection could truly flourish. Over the last ten years, we have grown from a passionate local studio into a multi-award winning dance school, guiding hundreds of dancers from their very first toddler classes all the way through to adult ballet, elite competition tracks and prestigious vocational training.

To celebrate this journey, our creative team and dancers are taking you on a journey out of this world. ‘Skylarks in Space’ explores the boundlessness of our galaxy, mirroring the limitless potential we see in every student who steps into our studio. From our youngest stars making their grand stage debuts to our advanced dancers pushing physical boundaries through classical ballet, contemporary and acro, tonight demonstrates what happens when you combine technical discipline with the freedom to dream.
A production of this magnitude requires its own small universe to pull off. I want to express my deepest gratitude to our extraordinary, highly qualified teaching faculty, whose professional stage experience and dedication shape our dancers every single week. To our parents, families, and friends thank you for your unwavering support, your late night rehearsal taxi runs, and for trusting us with your children’s dance journeys over the last ten years.
And finally, to our magnificent dancers: you are the heart, soul, and rhythm of Skylark. Look out into the audience tonight, feel the magic of this beautiful theatre, and dance your hearts out. You have worked so hard for this moment, and the stage is entirely yours.
Thank you all for being part of our first ten years. Sit back, relax, and enjoy our flight into the cosmos!
With pride and gratitude,

Anna Zhavoronkova
The Story

Lift-Off from Skylark School
Once upon a time, not far from here, in a place full of music, laughter and dreams… There lived a group of young dancers called the Skylarks.
They danced not just with their feet, but with their hearts. One day, tucked inside a forgotten cupboard, they discovered a star map, a gift from an ancient Skylark who once dreamed of dancing among the stars.
And so, with ribbon and stardust, silk and joy, they built a magical ship powered by movement and took flight. Into the sky they soared, to explore the galaxy through dance.

The Northern Lights
The Northern Lights become the connection between Earth and the Skylarks’ journey to space.
The Skylarks travel through the atmosphere, leaving the familiar behind as they begin their adventure among the stars.

The Planet of Mirrors
Their first stop: a quiet, glowing world…
The Planet of Mirrors. Here, dancers move in perfect harmony with their reflections, learning how every step begins within.
The Skylarks giggled and turned and twisted, seeing not just themselves… but who they could become.
They bowed to the mirror beings, grateful, and journeyed on.

The Moondust Meadows
The ship drifted into soft, silver light… Where tiny stars floated like feathers.
They had arrived in the Moondust Meadows, a world of gentle creatures who danced like dreams. With every pirouette, they painted stories in the sky.
The Skylarks felt the calm of this place settle in their souls and learned: Strength isn’t always loud. Sometimes… it whispers.

The Staccato Stars
Suddenly, BANG! A blast of colour and sound!
The Skylarks landed among the Staccato Stars. These stars didn’t just shine… they snapped, clapped and leapt!
Dancing to rhythms that sparkled like fireworks, they showed the Skylarks how to move as one, fast, bold and full of joy.
“Dance with fire,” they said, “but never alone.” And off the Skylarks danced, glowing with rhythm.

Meteor Shower
The ship tumbled through a meteor shower.
The Skylarks discovered strange new beings and a world caught in chaos.

The Shadow Belt
But space is vast… and not every corner shines. As the ship crossed into the Shadow Belt, the light grew dim and cold winds swirled.
Strange figures emerged, quiet, uncertain… These were the Shadows of Doubt.
They tried to confuse the Skylarks, to trip them, to make them forget their dance. But the Skylarks stood tall, remembering the Mirrors, the Moonlight and the Stars.
With courage in their hearts, they danced through the darkness… And the shadows melted into mist.

The Heart of the Galaxy
Finally, in the centre of all space, they arrived at the Heart of the Galaxy. A place where all rhythms meet, where all dances begin.
There, a brilliant being of light emerged, the Cosmic Spirit. It welcomed the Skylarks and gathered every creature they had met.Together, they danced in harmony, light and shadow, fast and slow, becoming one beautiful constellation of movement.
And the Cosmic Spirit whispered:
“The universe dances with you. Always.”

Return Home
The Skylarks returned to Earth, their ship aglow. They brought back not treasure, but truth:
That every dancer carries a spark of the stars. And as they danced one final time, beneath the sky they once soared through…
They knew their journey had just begun. For where there is music… and courage… and heart,
Skylarks will always fly.

A Decade of Flight
Anya and the Skylarks started here a decade ago, with just one class as part of the Creative Learning programme. We set out on a journey together with a joint belief that this would be the start of something very special and so it has proved.
Their quality and reputation quickly became known and demand for classes soared, and it became clear in 2020 that the Skylarks needed to fly the nest and open their own studios. It has been such an enormous pleasure to see how the incredible artistry and exceptional creativity of Anya and her team have attained such heights, and the Churchill Theatre are delighted to host their very special celebration with Skylarks in Space.
My heartfelt congratulations to Anya and all the Skylarks on this extraordinary milestone — and here’s to the next ten years!
